CAR TOLL INCREASE
From 23 August 2008

A Consumer Price Index (CPI)-linked toll adjustment on the M4 Motorway will take effect from 12.01am on Saturday 23 August 2008.

The toll for all Class A vehicles - cars and motorcycles - will change from $2.20 to $2.75 (inclusive of GST) in line with movements in the CPI.

Under the Project Deed the toll on the M4 is directly linked to the official measure of inflation - the CPI. The Project Deed was signed between the NSW Roads & Traffic Authority and the operators of the M4, Statewide Roads, in 1989.

This is the first car toll adjustment to take place on the M4 in eight years, the last occurring in the year 2000.

The M4 remains good value, providing motorists with significant time and fuel savings.

Motorists driving vehicles which are privately registered in NSW and who pay their tolls electronically are eligible to claim Cashback through the RTA. Further information on Cashback is available at www.rta.nsw.gov.au .

Exact change (automatic coin machine) lanes on the M4 accept all Australian coins, including 5c. Motorists can also get change at the manual cash booths, as is the case at present.

The toll for Class B heavy vehicles (trucks) will remain unchanged. (Released:08-08-2008)

NRMA Travel Survey
Confirms time & fuel savings for M4 customers

A trip along the M4 Motorway is more than twice as fast as the free alternative route running alongside it, according to a new travel time survey conducted by NRMA Motoring Services.

The average trip along the M4 in peak periods took 36 minutes, while the alternative route took 78 minutes. The survey found average M4 speeds of 73km/hr are over twice as fast as those travelled on alternative routes which averaged 35km/hr.

The survey also found cars used less fuel travelling on the M4. A trip along the M4 used an average 11.4 litres of petrol per 100kms as compared to 12.9 litres per 100kms on alternative routes, a saving of almost 15%.
