FAQS > CUSTOMER SERVICE AND UNPAID TOLLS
Q1: When was the toll removed?
The toll was removed on 16 February 2010 (that is, from midnight on 15 February 2010) when ownership of the M4 reverted back to the NSW Government. Q2: What happens after 15 February 2010 if I haven’t paid a toll for a trip taken before the toll was officially removed?
The unpaid toll and applicable administration fee remains payable to Statewide Roads (SWR), who will pursue it in accordance with its normal procedures, by issuing Toll Notices and Penalty Notices. Other debt recovery measures legally available to SWR will also be used when necessary.
Q3: Who do I pay after 15 February 2010 for outstanding M4 tolls?
Payments are to be made to Statewide Roads (SWR) via our online payment facility or by contacting SWR’s Customer Service on (02) 9647 0200.
Q4: Can I still use my electronic tag account to pay for unpaid tolls? Yes, provided your tag account was valid at the time of the trip and has sufficient funds. Payment can be made via our online payment facility or write your account and tag number details in the spaces provided on the Toll Notice, and return it to Statewide Roads by mail or fax as indicated on the Notice.
Q5: What should I do if I receive a Toll Notice from Statewide Roads indicating an unpaid toll and administration fee is due?
If you have an electronic tag account, you can request payment of the Toll Notice via SWR's online payment facility or write your account and tag number details in the spaces provided on the Toll Notice, and return it to Statewide Roads by mail or fax as indicated on the Notice. Your account and tag number details can be sourced from the statement of toll usage sent to you monthly or quarterly from your tag issuer. Your nominated electronic tag account will then be charged for the toll and applicable administration fee. You will also need to contact your account issuer to determine why the toll was not able to be charged to your account at the time of the trip.
If you don't have an electronic tag account you can pay the Toll Notice by credit card via SWR's online payment facility or by returning the Toll Notice to Statewide Roads along with a cheque or money order for the required toll and administration fee.
Q6: What is Cashback?
The Cashback scheme is an initiative of the State Government of NSW. Under Cashback, motorists driving privately registered vehicles on the M4 and M5 motorways may obtain reimbursement of tolls (less GST) from the State Government of NSW.
As from 16 February 2010, the Cashback Scheme will no longer apply to the M4.
For more information on Cashback call the RTA on 1300 133 310 or visit the RTA M4/M5 Cashback Scheme website.
Q7: Can M4 Cashback claims still be made after 15 February 2010?
As from 16 February 2010, the Cashback Scheme will no longer apply to the M4. However, Cashback claims for the M4 can still be made after this date for tolls paid up to and including 15 February 2010. Eligible Cashback claimants are reminded that rebates must be claimed within 12 calendar months of the end of the Cashback quarter.
